Maintenance Officer

The Australian Museum Research Institute (AMRI) is seeking an experienced Maintenance Officer to assist with the day-to-day operation, maintenance and upkeep of facilities, buildings and equipment at the Lizard Island Research Station, ensuring a safe, functional and productive environment for staff, researchers and visitors .About the RoleReporting to the Co-Directors of Lizard Island, you will take ownership of general maintenance across the station, working autonomously while collaborating closely with on-site teams and external contractors.


Your responsibilities will include:


Maintaining buildings, plant and equipment including generators, electrical systems, water supply, waste management, vehicles, boats and access tracks

Coordinating barge operations for equipment and supply movements
Liaising with suppliers and contractors to support station operations
Keeping accurate maintenance, servicing and repair records
Ordering spare parts, fuel and consumables
Providing assistance and advice to visitors and monitoring field activities as required
Responding to breakdowns and urgent maintenance issues, including outside standard hours when required


About You


You are hands-on, adaptable and comfortable working in a remote tropical environment. You take pride in problem-solving, working safely and keeping things running smoothly.


To be successful, you will have:


Proven experience in a maintenance role, ideally in a remote or isolated location
Strong practical skills across general maintenance and repairs
Good communication and interpersonal skills
A current full driver licence
Physical fitness to perform manual work in a tropical climateHighly regarded licences and experience include:
Forklift licence
Recreational boat licence (or higher)
Trade skills (electrical, mechanical, plumbing, diesel engines, refrigeration, welding, etc.)
First Aid / CPR / oxygen resuscitation
Marine radio operator licence
Chainsaw licence
